WORSHIP
Romans worshipped two different ways. One was at home were families worshipped specific spirits. The other way is in public were the everyone honored multiplied gods. Many people thought that the gods helped in building Rome. There was gods for almost every object which is called numina. These gods were involved in every aspect of the Roman peoples life. A very common household cult is the Dii Familiaris were each family has its own spirits called Lares, that watches over the family and make sure that the family line doesn't die out. There was a spirit for almost every part of the house and in most houses there was small shrines for these spirits were the family would pray to them daily. These spirits stayed with the family until they died. The Capitoline temple is a grand temple where the gods were worshiped, especially the triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. A common tradition was putting coins on the eyes of the dead so that they could pay Charon the Ferryman to take them to the underworld. Another one was holding festivals for almost every god and doing sacred traditions that related to the gods life. As the Roman Empire grew it found out about divine kingship and didn't believe kings should even be compared to gods but then Julius Caesar and his whole family were made into gods after they died to honor all that they did.
